Frequently Asked Questions

  • Consultation is an opportunity for you to learn more about me, talk about your current mental health challenges and reasons for seeking therapy, and/or ask questions that relate to my therapy practice. I will provide information about my services, answer your general inquiries, and may ask you questions in return. Ultimately, we will assess if we are a good fit for each other. I will encourage you to reflect upon this before booking your first appointment.

  • During the first appointment, I complete a holistic assessment and ask general questions about your presenting mental health and/or life challenges, current work/education experiences, social support networks (e.g., friends, family, romantic partner, etc.), religious and spirituality beliefs, physical health (e.g., medication, illnesses, exercise routine, sleep, etc.), and other areas of your life. You are not expected to divulge all this information in your first session and can take time to share this throughout multiple sessions, which will be based on your comfort level. At the end of session, we will discuss goal setting and treatment interventions that may be helpful during our work together.

  • Follow-up sessions can vary depending on what is happening in your life at that time. I am open to reflecting upon your current life events, past experiences, and memories, and/or our previous sessions that connect back to your overall goals in therapy. At the beginning of each session, I will often ask: “What do you want to focus on together today?” I encourage you to have some considerations about this beforehand, so that we can effectively maximize our time together during the session.

At the end of our sessions, I may propose the following therapeutic exercises for you to complete before we meet each other next:

    -Journal prompt

    -Watch a video

    -Review hand-outs or readings

    -Track your mood

-Practice boundary setting with a loved one

And many other ideas that we can collaborate on together

I will ask if the therapeutic exercise resonates with you before the end of session. You are also not expected to complete the above to its entirety or if it is outside of your comfort zone.

Lastly, it is important to note that it will take time for our therapeutic relationship to grow. Your trust in me, along with your ability to be vulnerable and emotionally transparent during session, may take time to develop. If there are any barriers during this process, please let me know and we can brainstorm solutions around this.

  • In-person sessions take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Masking is optional and is based on the client’s preference.

  • Overall, I provide a warm, collaborative, exploratory, and introspective space. I believe that the client is the expert of their own life and can find their own solutions to their problems. My role is to provide emotional guidance, a safe space, and coping strategies to get you there. I am always open to feedback about the overall therapeutic process and how it can be improved going forward.

  • I accept credit card and pre-authorized debit payments. You are expected to pay for the session in full. From there, I will provide a receipt after the session so that you can submit this to your health insurance provider.

  • Before attending therapy, contact your health insurance provider and confirm that “Master of Social Work/Registered Social Worker” is covered by your benefits plan. Your health insurance provider can also provide a step-by-step process in how you claim your benefits for therapy. Please contact me if your health insurance provider requires more information before approving your claim.
